Forward Carers lead on new Walsall Carers Hub
Walsall Council has chosen Forward Carers to lead the newly funded Carers Hub service.
In Walsall, there are over 17,000 people providing unpaid care for a friend or family member who may be frail, have a serious illness, disability or addiction. Without the correct support, these Carers are likely to burn out. The new Walsall Carers Hub will offer free advice and a wide range of support to unpaid Carers in the area, helping them in their caring role.
Walsall Council has awarded Forward Carers, a not-for-profit organisation, to manage Walsall Carers Hub starting on 1 July 2022. Forward Carers CIC will be working in collaboration with the regional charity, Midland Mencap, to deliver the new Walsall Carers Hub service from the charity’s Disability Hub location in Walsall town centre.
Councillor Keir Pedley, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care at Walsall Council, said: “Unpaid Carers play a vital role in our local communities and it’s important that help and support is available for both the Carer and the person they care for. Carers face many challenges, and the new Carers Hub will run support groups and provide the practical, financial and emotional support they need to care for a loved one.
“We recognise the huge contribution unpaid carers make to families and communities throughout the borough and we are committed to giving them our continued support.”
Simon Fenton, Forward Carers CEO commented,
We are delighted to be awarded the contract by Walsall Council to run a new Walsall Carers Hub Service alongside our partner Midland Mencap. Walsall Carers Hub will support unpaid Carers by offering information and guidance including welfare advice, wellbeing checks, providing digital support and other provision to improve the wellbeing of Carers in Walsall.
The Walsall Carers Hub will be hosting an open day on 5 July 2022 at 17 Lichfield Street, Walsall WS1 1TU. Carers and professionals are welcome to call in between 11.00am and 2.00pm to meet the new team and register with the service free of charge.
