Walking for Wellbeing

For the past two months, Carers have joined the Walsall Carers Hub team to venture out for a wellbeing walk around Walsall Arboretum. The team and Carers alike find these walks a joy and they have become an event we all look forward to.

Carers often put the needs of their loved ones before their own, causing their own wellbeing to suffer. However, taking care of yourself and prioritising your health and happiness is just as important as taking care of your loved ones.

Why We Walk Together

Walking can have a positive impact on all aspects of health. During our wellbeing walk, Carers can take time for themselves to clear their mind, breathe in fresh air, and connect with nature. But also, to connect with others who understand the unique challenges and joys of caring for a loved one.

During the walk, Carers can focus on being present in the moment and taking in their surroundings. They can practice mindfulness by paying attention to their breath and the sensations in their body. Take a few moments to sit and appreciate nature.

Connecting With Others

A mixed group of Carers are sat around a table in a coffee shop. There are coffees on the table and many of the Carers are still wearing their coats after the walk. On the wall behind them, there is a three dimensional textile art piece. This piece is a scene of the outdoors, with plants, flowers, insects and animals.
Post Wellbeing Walk Coffee and Chat

People share stories and experiences. Finding comfort in knowing that there are others who truly understand the highs and lows that Caring brings. Conversations wander in much the same way as our bodies. A mix of small talk, chat about life and Caring, mindful appreciation of our surroundings – the joyous sights, sounds and the earthy scent on the air. It would be easy to forget that we are in a busy place like Walsall.

After the walk, we gather for some refreshments and continue to chat.

Carers have commented that they notice feeling more relaxed and energized, with a clearer mind and a renewed sense of purpose. By prioritising their own wellbeing, Carers can better support their loved ones and improve their overall quality of life.

Can I come along?

We would love to have you join us. Come along and join our next wellbeing walk and take a break from your caring responsibilities. Connect with other Carers and prioritise your own wellbeing.
