New Walsall Carers Hub Opens!
The new Walsall Carers Hub, set to provide services and support to local unpaid Carers, has been officially declared open on 5 July 2022.
Since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, over 4.5 million people have become unpaid Carers across the UK, providing help to a relative or friend who cannot cope without their support. With this number set to continually increase, individual regions are exploring how to best support those in a caring role.
To support local unpaid Carers, Walsall Council has recently funded a new Carers hub service led by the not-for-profit organisation, Forward Carers CIC. Forward Carers will work in partnership with Midland Mencap, to deliver the new Walsall Carers Hub service from the charity’s Disability Hub location in Walsall town centre.
Walsall Carers Hub was declared officially open on 5 July, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Simon Fenton, Forward Carers CEO, Dave Rogers, Midland Mencap CEO and local family Carer Debbie Wiseman.
The new service will provide local Carers with free information and guidance including, welfare advice, Carer wellbeing checks, events and activities, online training, support groups and much more.
Simon Fenton said, “Being a Carer to a family member or friend can be rewarding but also incredibly challenging. Carers can sometimes neglect their own health and wellbeing and risk becoming burnt out. Walsall Carers Hub is here to provide practical, financial and emotional support to improve the wellbeing of Carers.”
Dave Rogers added, “We already hold regular adult community activities at our Disability Hub, so the new Walsall Carers Hub will complement our offer by providing support to Carers too. All Carers have to do is register for free on the Walsall Carers Hub website.”
Family Carer Debbie said, “My son Michael loves coming to the Disability Hub and now I can benefit by joining in with Carer activities, meet other Carers and get support just for me.”
Find out more about the new Walsall Carers Hub, visit www.walsallcarershub.org.uk or call 01922 616 798. Carers can register for free via the website and as part of National Co-Production Week, Walsall Carers Hub invites carers to come to an event at the Hub at 11.00am on 15 September to have their say and help shape the future for unpaid Carers across Walsall.
